At the GS-07 level, participates as a member of an inspection team led by a higher-graded specialist, and assists in the planning of and/or conducting of a limited segment of a major investigation or a small investigation where the exposure and type of hazard and unsafe working conditions is predictable in advance. Identifies areas in need of immediate corrective action or conditions which are of imminent danger to life or limb. Assists in the documentation of conducted portions of investigations to help support a legally sufficient case.At the GS-09 level, assists in planning and conducting portions of limited inspections or compliance reviews in establishments and worksites. Identifies areas in need of immediate corrective action or conditions which are of imminent danger to life or limb. Inspects worksite, machine and equipment operations, environmental conditions, work practices, protective devices and equipment, and safety procedures; records and photographs apparent violations of standards for use as evidence of existing hazards and unsafe working conditions. Interviews supervisors and employees for information on specific working conditions. Documents case files; prepares final reports or assigned portions of reports, showing apparent violations; uses automated system to calculate penalties; and recommends penalties and abatement dates.
